The protagonist, grandson of a skilled repair technician, seeks to inherit her legacy and arrives in a town where half of the residents are androids. Once there, he finds himself tasked with performing maintenance on a group of androids with "complicated histories"... units that, for some inexplicable reason, have been deemed ineligible for their manufacturer's warranty.
