This island, Futabajima, is located next to a small island Matsukawaooshima in the Seto Inland Sea, and is smaller still. It is said that the two islands were given as a reward to Matsukawa Shinkurou for his accomplishments during the Warring States period, which was also when the islands were renamed.

Such is the island you're arrived to. Transport is inconvenient and the latest places of entertainment are nowhere to be found. Locally grown Mikan oranges and freshly harvested marine products are tasty, but that's where the pros end.

But we do have friends the same age as us. The kind of buddies you can just hang out with and still have a good time. And lately I've begun to think that's all I need. Let's go to school together. Let's go swimming together.
