In 1950, a meteorite was discovered on the territory of the USSR containing an unknown metal with unique properties. After analysis, it was determined that the meteorite was from Mars. In 1956, the first expedition launched to Mars with the goal of mining this metal. Thanks to this, the USSR became the world's leading power. Gradually, small colonies grew into fully-fledged cities, and the latest technologies created comfortable living conditions on the planet, almost indistinguishable from Earth's.

But in 2006, due to a massive solar flare, Earth became completely uninhabitable within a few days. Left without support, the people on Mars were left to fend for themselves. Over time, the installations maintaining the atmosphere and magnetic field began to fail. Due to rising radiation levels, the birth rate dropped to zero, and cancer rates soared.
