The Story of a Morning

For the better part of 7 centuries, Avice has experienced the march of time in 24 hour increments. Bound to the tree that houses her best—and worst—memories, she wanders the New Keltberk Botanical Gardens each year on the anniversary of her death. Ignored by the living, she has grown used to isolation and prefers to avoid the touring crowds by hiding in the arboretum.

This year, however, she quickly finds her solitary vigil interrupted by the impromptu appearance of a young clairvoyant. Airheaded and immature, Quinn is the very definition of a problem child. But what they lack in brain cells, they more than make up for in sheer obstinance.
