The protagonist neighbor who is in love with. Its later revealed to be protagonist biological mother who was involved in a scandal involving the protagonist father who was an unsuccessful painter. They eloped only for the father to eventually abandon Minako and the infant protagonist. Minako left the protagonist to her best friend Kaori (protagonist adoptive mother) to chase after him only to end up disappearing leaving Kaori to solely raise the protagonist.
