Orphaned at age 8 when his parents died in an accident, Shinpei was adopted by Alain Kofune, the father of Ushio and Mio. After graduating from middle school, he left his hometown Hitogashima and enrolled in a culinary school in Tokyo. He has a habit of observing things and situations from a detached, high-level perspective. Hearing the news of Ushio's death, Shinpei returns to Hitogashima for the first time in two years. At the story's beginning, he gains Heine's right eye, which grants him a limited time-loop ability—sending his consciousness back in time whenever he dies.
