Catherine Hawk is the second daughter of John Hawk, an American silver mining tycoon. She lost her mother at a young age and followed her father to America, where he discovered a silver mine and grew even richer from successful investments. Consequently, Catherine became a desirable heiress overnight. Upon entering London high society she has immediately attracted numerous suitors, and became the center of gossip—some of which may be true.
