His ancestor is Mizuki from the Water Village. Due to being born with different colors in each eye, he has been called a devil child, following the tradition of the Winter Village that ones born with different colored eyes will bring disaster. He is hardly given an opportunity to leave his village other than for work. It is part of the reason why he is not to be the next chieftain of the Winter Village despite being a direct descendant of Mizuki. Ran trusts his younger brother, Fuyukiku, and is proud of him.
